Wigan braces for another scorching day as schools adjust hours in extreme heat
The heat is already having an impact on schools across the borough. Wigan Today has reported that a number of Wigan schools are operating adapted hours or early closures because of the extreme temperatures, while local live coverage has confirmed that Shevington High School is among those closing early today. Because arrangements are changing school by school, parents and carers are being urged to check emails, texts, school apps and official school social media pages for the latest updates. If you are unsure whether your child’s school is finishing early, the safest option is to contact the school directly before travelling.
With the heat expected to remain intense through the day, residents are also being advised to drink plenty of water, avoid unnecessary time in the midday sun and keep an eye on older relatives, young children and anyone who may struggle in the heat. (GOV.UK)
